Gesneriads

After falling in love african violets I suppose it was only a matter of time before I started looking at other members of this plant family…

African violet cousins

The Gesneriad family all have one thing in common – they’re beautiful plants! There are a number of genuses (is that the plural of ‘genus’ – I’m not sure) including streptocarpus, alsobia, eucodonia, episcia, chrysothemis and primulina.

Some are quite similar to african violets (especially eucodonia) while others are quite different. I had no idea that there were so many varieties of streptocarpus and some of the flowers are truly magical (I can see why some people get quite obsessed with these plants!).

We’ve now started to grow some of these plants and are building up a stock to supply seeds and eventually leaves and plants for sale.

Have a look at www.cloudviolets.co.uk/gesneriads for more information.
